The Internet culture of today has evolved and conditioned people from reading to viewing; but even with videos, peoples attention is getting shorter and shorter (remember Vine? 7 seconds was too much for some people). A video is a very powerful way to deliver a message in a short amount of time but in an interesting and entertaining way. But there is one very important question that needs to be asked: “Can the same video create the same results on different platforms?”
No. 

Social Media, websites, and television are all totally different platforms that need to be approached in their own ways.

Imagine this: you are on your Facebook page, at home or at work, scrolling up and down, seeing many posts, pictures, and some videos. If a video is about a dog doing a flip, very short and adorable, chances are you’ll click on it, smile, and move on. If the video is 2-3 minutes long, has audio, and requires your full attention, the chances you’ll stay for it are significantly lower; you just keep scrolling.

While you can upload the same video on different platforms, some videos will have different impacts in different stages of the consumer journey, where the customer goes from the point of seeing the product for the first time to the final debate whether or not to buy it; it actually takes about 7-8 times to see a product before we are convinced to make that decision.

So, let’s talk about the two main types of videos out there: Marketing and Branding.

A Marketing video is a short video that teases your audience to learn more about a specific product or service. It can be a TV ad, a promo, or a giveaway.

A Branding video, also known as a Corporate video or a Product video, gives a high amount of information and builds high credibility, and helps the customer seal the deal.

Marketing Videos

Marketing videos are great tools to engage your audience and tease them to take action to learn more about you. Marketing videos are typically used on different platforms such as social media and television. A good time range for these kind of videos ranges from 5 seconds to 120 seconds, or two minutes. This type of video can tell a joke, highlight a dramatic display, or even show an emotional moment. Remember, in this video you do not give all the information about your company to the viewer, but just highlight the problem and the solution you are offering.

Think about the commercials you last saw on TV; although they did not give all the information away about the company, they brought enough to get you looking at their products. Think about the “5 seconds before skip” ads you find on YouTube; within five seconds, the ad needs to catch your eye and interest you in it so you won’t skip but continue looking at the product.

If done properly, you will not even have to spend a dime on promotion for this video; people will share it themselves because it had entertained them and interested them enough. If the video goes viral, congrats! That is millions and millions of possible views and possibly a lot of money headed your way.

Branding Videos

A Branding video is a video people will come to watch because they want to learn more about your service/product. It could be that they saw it on social media or another platform; It could be that someone referred them to you. These people are interested in a specific thing you have to offer., and would rather spend time doing their research about the product. A branding video should be about 2-5 minutes long and present a real problem people and businesses might suffer from while revealing a perfect solution; then, little by little, it should reveal more and more details about the products, showing why it is best for the customer. By the end of the video, the viewer should have learned enough about you and the product to prepare them to take the next action.

A branding video is the most important video to have!
